Pediatric Grand Rounds presented by: Mark A. Menestrina, MD, Director of Detox Unit, Brighton Hospital. Objectives: Describe addiction as a chronic disease and distinguish the differences between addiction and abuse; list the common substances and recent trends involved in teen substance abuse; recall at least 3 risk factors and 3 protective factors for teen substance use disorders; and give examples of at least 3 barriers for successfully addressing substance use disorders.
